Sankri is a remote village in Uttarkashi district in the foothills of the Himalayas. This small village is the base camp for the famous Kedarkantha Trek apart from many other famous treks like Har ki dun trek, Rupin pass trek, Bali pass trek, and many more. Located inside the Govind wildlife sanctuary this village is at a height of 6400 feet above sea level this village is a great place for a quiet holiday in the mountains or if you are an adventure enthusiast. This place is culturally rich with wooden architecture and a majestic view of the Himalayas. 

What is the weather in Sankri?

Sankri is nestled in the upper region of the Himalayas at around 6400 feet above sea level. Weather is Sankri is cold all through the year. The weather is extreme with frequent snowfall and temperatures dropping to -15 degrees celsius in the month of December and January. The best weather is in the months of February to April with pleasant sunny days at 10 degrees and cold nights with temperatures going to -10 degrees in the night

Network connectivity in Sankri?

Sankri does have a tower for mobile connectivity but most of the networks do not work there. So make important calls to family and friends before you leave. You can make an outgoing call from BSNL network at times. If you don't have a BSNL network you can pay and call from any shop or hotel there.

Can I buy/rent equipment or winterwear in Sankri?

Sankri has a few shops for essential items and Dhaba/restaurants for eateries. There are a few shops which sell and rent equipment like trekking poles, trekking shoes, jackets and trek pants and woollen accessories like gloves and caps and shades. But availability is limited so try and carry whatever you can.

How to reach Sankri?

The distance between Dehradun and Sankri is approximately 198 kilometres.

The travel from Dehradun to Sankri is not an easy one as there are only a couple of local buses in the morning. Both buses are at 5 am and 7 am respectively from prince chowk opposite GP grand hotel. It takes around 10hours to reach Sankri from Dehradun. You can take the same buses from Vikasnagar at 6 am and 8 am. 

If you miss the 5 am bus and don't want to wait you can take an indirect bus- Dehradun to Nogauh/Purola and from Purola to Sankri.

Shared taxis from Dehradun to Sankri are at 7.30 am from Grand hotel which takes 8 hours time to reach Sankri. You will reach at 3.30 pm which will cost you around INR600 to INR700 approx.

You can also hire a personal vehicle at INR5500 to INR6000 for bolero INR7000 for Innova and INR9000 for tempo traveller

You can also find homestays with wooden interior and hostels all through the year.

Entry charges for Sankri?

The place is inside the Govind wildlife sanctuary so you will have to pay an additional INR 150 per day to the wildlife.
