Overview

Valley of Flowers Trek is a botanist bounty! So, if you are a flora and fauna enthusiast this trek is your paradise. But mind you this is a comparatively compelling terrain so adventure lovers you get the whole package! The snow-covered Himalayas add majesty to the mountains and the innumerable flowers add to its beauty. This was a chance discovery made in the 1930s by a British traveller whose contribution has left us with this beautiful site to rest our eyes on. At an altitude of 12,700 ft, the valley with rich diverse fauna is home to numerous species of insects and butterflies. So, pack your bags and enjoy the colourfully luxurious scenes of this special trek in Uttarakhand!

All accommodation/lodging in Govindghat and  Ghangaria will be in hotels/guesthouses on triple/quad sharing basis as camping is banned in the area.
Transportation from Haridwar to Joshimath/Auli and back will be additional. The shared
cab will be provided at request. You can choose the option on the website under transportation
or request the same via mail.

Itinerary

Day 1
Day 1 : Haridwar - Govindghat 265km /9 hours
The first day starts with an early morning tour to Govindghat crossing Devprayag. It is simply great to witness the confluence of the rivers Alaknanda and Bhagirathi. This is the location from where River Ganga flows. You will be arriving at Joshimath by evening, if you leave Haridwar or Rishikesh early in the morning, and drive along the Badrinath highway. The journey - encompassing steep roads and gorges takes about 9 hours. For relaxing, you can check into guest houses/camps in Govindghat where you will have dinner and retire for the day.
Day 2
Day 2: Trek from Govindghat to Ghangaria (17 kms/5-7 hrs)
The second-day trail starts from early in the morning once you have your breakfast.
From Govindghat, you will find a well-maintained pilgrim journey to Ghangaria.  The trek starts just beyond the Alakananda river bridge. In this 17 km hiking trail, that takes around 5 hours, you will be able to get a glimpse of the Bhutundar Valley and the Laxman-Ganga River bank. Once you reach Ghangaria, it is the best location for camp setup, with a helipad and tabular space. Undoubtedly nature has its own beauty that cannot be compared to any other things in the world; so while you spend the evening, do not miss checking the splendor of the twilight sky.
Day 3
Day 3: Ghangaria - Valley of Flowers Ghangaria (5 kms one side/4-5 hrs)
The third day starts after having breakfast and the destination is the Valley of Flowers which is situated 3858 m from Ghangaria. Leave early at around 6 am to make the best of your time. After hiking for a km, you shall come to a split lane which will be the entrance of the gate.
Almost 2 km from the entrance, you will come across a bridge with a tiny stream, which is the commencement of the valley. Well, if you are looking for something that is worth capturing in the reels and you are interested in the floral collection, then this is a paradise for you. Here you can see huge varieties of rare wildflowers springing up on either side. Well, most of the species have medical benefits. The entire valley is not too huge but is distinguished with the Pushpawati stream. Several waterfalls and tiny streams merge here. Once you have roamed the entire valley, which is around 7 km, it’s time to set back for Ghangaria.
We will be carrying ready-made lunch from Ghangaria and commence your return along the same path by early afternoon.
Day 4
Day 4: Ghanghria-Hemkund-Ghanghria
Your final day destination is Hemkund Sahib which is located at a distance 4329 m from Ghangaria. Your visit to this location might be hard because it is steep than others.We will start your trek early, at around 5 am. Do remember to carry a raincoat and a trekking pole. Hike past the Valley of Flowers deviation, where you shall reach a spectacular waterfall on your right.
Post 3 hours of steady walking and numerous breaks, you reach Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara - with the lake located just behind it. Around Hemkund, the Himalayan flower, Brahma Kamal - that grows only at heights of 10000 ft to 15000 ft- is found abundantly. Plan your departure from Hemkund by early afternoon. The downward trek is strenuous, taking approximately 5 hours to hike through the 6 kms. Trek to this location includes challenges of weather and terrain. Undoubtedly, the place itself defines it serenity. It would no wrong to compare this place to heaven. It’s spectacular and heavenly!
Day 5
Day 5: Trek from Ghangaria to Govindghat
Start your fifth day and plan your homeward journey by 6 am, post breakfast.
You shall reach Govindghat by 12 pm from where you will stay for a night. You can explore the area in the evening.
Day 6
Day 6: Govindghat -Haridwar
Auli will give you a feeling of resting on nature’s lap. Whether it’s a climatic condition or the picturesque beauty, Auli is a place with panoramic scenic beauty. On the sixth day of the journey, its journey starts from Govindghat and ends at Haridwar via Joshimath/Auli. On your way, you can visit Rudraprayag – a place where River Alakananda and Mandakini meets. You will reach Haridwar/Rishikesh by evening and this is again another location that has many adventures stored in the bucket for you. It is always better to keep additional 2 to 3 days in hand to visit and enjoy the adventures in Rishikesh.

Things to Carry

Necessities:

  1. Trekking shoes **: Trekking shoes with good grip and ankle support is compulsory for the trek. Please ensure that the trekking shoes are not new and used by the trekker prior to the trek. The trail is slippery and requires you to walk through rocks and boulders so good grip and water resistance shoe is necessary.  Do keep an extra floater in case of rain and for use in camps.
  2. Backpack (50-70 litres) **: A backpack with comfortable straps and a supporting frame is very important as you have to carry it on your own during the trek. Invest in a good backpack that is lightweight and comfortable to carry on long treks. 
  3. Daypack (20 litres): Keep a daypack incase you off load your backpack during the trek for your essential day items.
  4. Torch or Headlamp **: Please bring a torch or headlamp for all treks.
  5. Cutlery: Carry a spoon, mug and a lunch box. We insist on trekkers getting their own cutlery for hygiene reasons and for packed lunch.
  6. Sunglasses **: Invest in a good pair of sunglasses as you are going to be out in the sun for most of day. If you are trekking in snow it will be a mandatory as it protects you from snow blindness.
  7. Two water bottles **: 1 litre each for water during the trek.

Clothes and Other accessories


  1. Warm jacket and Sweater (couple of them if you feel more susceptible to cold) 
  2. Thermals: Carry thermals to keep yourself warm in the camp.Trek pants (2)  for daily use during the trek which are light and comfortable.
  3. Collared Shirts (3-4) Full sleeves and quick dry so that it prevents sunburn on the arms and neck area. 
  4. Poncho: Poncho is very important when you are trekking in monsoon season to protect you from the rain. You can rent one from us @ INR 50 per day.
  5. Cap: To protect your hair and face from the scorching sun carry a cap.
  6.  Synthetic gloves for your hands as it will protect your hands from water, snow and keep you dry and warm.
  7. Socks (2 pair) + Wollen socks(2 pair)  for keep you warm in the camps.
  8. Trekking pole: You should carry your own trekking poles for the steep uphills and downhills. You can carry them or rent one from us @ INR 50 per day
  9. Toiletries: Sunscreen **, moisturiser, lip balm, toilet paper, toothbrush, toothpaste, hand sanitiser, wet wipes and tissues. 
  10. Plastic covers: While packing, use plastic bags to compartmentalise things and carry few extra plastic bags for wet clothes and to bring back your non biodegradable material back. Mountains are the source of water and life on this planet. Please try and keep it clean and healthy.
