The moderate trek with a climb of 2000 ft requires preparation, physical fitness, and cardiovascular checks – prior to the journey – especially in snow-laden winter months. Mobile connectivity is active in Sari but weak in the mountains. ATMs can be last spotted in Ukhimath.

Itinerary

The woods are lovely, dark, deep – the words of Robert Frost comes alive in the woody forests, pretty birds, and spectacular mountains of Chopta Chandrashila trek. Here, let us give a brief overview of this wonderful hike that can make memories of a lifetime!

 

Day 1 – Haridwar to Sari (7 hrs)

On your arrival to Haridwar, you will start a new journey, usually a drive, to the small, quaint village of Sari. On your way, you will come across the holy rivers Alakananda and Ganges. It is a long journey from Haridwar, where you can also get a glance of revered towns like Rudraprayag, Rishikesh and Devprayag. Well, it will roughly take 6-7 hours to reach Sari where you require regaining all your energy in order to start the next day enthralling trek to the famous Deoriatal Lake.



Day 2 - Sari – Deoriatal. (2.5 Kms hike/ 1 hr)

Your second day of the tour is trekking to Deoriatal. Once you have your breakfast, it is time to start your hike along a well-defined trail. It is an approximately 3 kms long trek, where you get to see some of the jaw-dropping beauty of the place. The entire trek will be guided by holy rivers Alaknanda and Ganga. After passing two viewpoints – constructed by the Forest Department and a dhaba – you shall reach your destination.

Deoriatal lake is a picture-perfect location with striking views of nature, Himalayan birds, mountain peaks such as Mt. Chaukhamba. During sunset, you can witness the stunning views of the golden sunrays striking the clear water. Camp beside the lake for the night. In the morning, it is simply magnificent to watch such the surreal beauty of the hills, as the clouds clear, to offer a mesmerising view.



Day 3: Deoria Taal – Rohini Bugyal (8 Kms trek/ 4-5 hours)

Your third day trail starts after having a healthy breakfast and gathering your energy to keep the adrenalin rush high till you reach Rohini Bugyal. During the trek, you will come across the scenic and lush patches of oaks, Rhododendron and Pine forests. Well, Monal is a rare bird species, which you can find if you are lucky enough. After passing the landmarks of Bhagdwal and Kala Parvat, you will reach a small rivulet. Fill your bottles here; your destination is a 40m climb on your right side. Trekking to this region is not only memorable because of its scenic beauty but a unique experience.


 

Day 4: Rohini Bugyal – Chopta (6 Kms trek/ 3-4 hours)

Fourth day, the journey starts by trekking to Chopta from Rohini Bugyal. There will be numerous difficulties throughout the trek and you will come across forests with trees like Maple, Oak and Rhododendrons. This is a steep climb that eventually ends to a beautiful location with idle setting of mesmerizing alpine meadows, covered with dense forests. A path that diverts towards your right marks the entrance to this meadow. After about 20 minutes of descent through a forest trail, you would come across a road head. Walk for about 1 km, when you shall finally reach the Chopta campsite. You can explore Chopta landscapes on your overnight stay in camps with dinner and bonfire.


 
Day 5: Chopta – Tungnath – Chandrashila – Chopta (9 Kms Trek/ 4 hrs)

Your fifth day starts after having your breakfast, preferably very early morning, with the only aim to reach Tungnath. It is a famous temple of the deity Shiva. The cemented pilgrim trail has 11 scissor bends and it takes a walk of around 2 km to reach your destination. Undoubtedly, the entire place that you come across is serene but this temple is blessed with ultimate peace. Further, the trek will lead to the panoramic view of the Kedar range.

Chandrashila peak is 45 minutes from Tungnath temple and is another treasure of nature. It’s a wonderful canvas of spectacular landscape where you can have a glimpse of the endangered golden breasted eagles and Garhwal and Kumaon peaks.  Finally, before getting back to Chopta, don’t forget to fill your reels with the scenic beauty. The route back is the same as that you had taken when arriving here. You can stay overnight at the camps in Chopta.




Day 6: Road Journey from Chopta to Haridwar (186 Km)

On your return journey, you require going back to Haridwar next day morning, by preferably booking a jeep. You shall reach Haridwar in the evening. The entire tour might end after you eventually step to Haridwar but nature is something that you can treasure in your heart forever.

Things to carry


Necessities:

  1. Trekking shoes **: Trekking shoes with good grip and ankle support is compulsory for the trek. Please ensure that the trekking shoes are not new and used by the trekker prior to the trek. The trail is slippery and requires you to walk through rocks and boulders so good grip and water resistance shoe is necessary.  Do keep an extra floater in case of rain and for use in camps.
  2. Backpack (50-70 litres) **: A backpack with comfortable straps and a supporting frame is very important as you have to carry it on your own during the trek. Invest in a good backpack that is lightweight and comfortable to carry on long treks. 
  3. Daypack (20 litres): Keep a daypack incase you off load your backpack during the trek for your essential day items.
  4. Torch or Headlamp **: Please bring a torch or headlamp for all treks.
  5. Cutlery: Carry a spoon, mug and a lunch box. We insist on trekkers getting their own cutlery for hygiene reasons and for packed lunch.
  6. Sunglasses **: Invest in a good pair of sunglasses as you are going to be out in the sun for most of day. If you are trekking in snow it will be a mandatory as it protects you from snow blindness.
  7. Two water bottles **: 1 litre each for water during the trek.

Clothes and Other accessories


  1. Warm jacket and Sweater (couple of them if you feel more susceptible to cold) 
  2. Thermals: Carry thermals to keep yourself warm in the camp.Trek pants (2)  for daily use during the trek which are light and comfortable.
  3. Collared Shirts (3-4) Full sleeves and quick dry so that it prevents sunburn on the arms and neck area. 
  4. Poncho: Poncho is very important when you are trekking in monsoon season to protect you from the rain. You can rent one from us @ INR 50 per day.
  5. Cap: To protect your hair and face from the scorching sun carry a cap.
  6.  Synthetic gloves for your hands as it will protect your hands from water, snow and keep you dry and warm.
  7. Socks (2 pair) + Wollen socks(2 pair)  for keep you warm in the camps.
  8. Trekking pole: You should carry your own trekking poles for the steep uphills and downhills. You can carry them or rent one from us @ INR 50 per day
  9. Toiletries: Sunscreen **, moisturiser, lip balm, toilet paper, toothbrush, toothpaste, hand sanitiser, wet wipes and tissues. 
  10. Plastic covers: While packing, use plastic bags to compartmentalise things and carry few extra plastic bags for wet clothes and to bring back your non biodegradable material back. Mountains are the source of water and life on this planet. Please try and keep it clean and healthy.

  7. Digene – 5 tablets (acidity)
  8. Crepe bandage – 3 to 5 meters
  9. Gauze – 1 small roll
  10. Band aid – 5 strips
  11. Cotton – 1 small roll
  12. ORS – 105packets
  13. Betadine or any antiseptic cream
  14. Moov spray (aches, & sprains)
