When it feels like your life has lost all its charm due to the hectic schedule, just set out for the Chopta Chandrashila trek, via the sparkling Deoriatal lake and rejuvenate yourself in the lush rhododendron forest and enthralling scenic views. The entire trail encompasses spectacular views from the great Chandrashila summit, plenty of forests, uncountable varieties of plants and birds. It is the perfect escape for both nature and bird lovers.

Why choose this trek?

Trekking to the Chandrashila, which is located at a height of 4000 metres above the sea level, is a location from where you can get a wide view of the major summits of Eastern and Western Uttarakhand. It’s a surreal location with unmatchable view of all the peaks. While moving towards the summit, especially between Deoriatal and Bhrujgali, you will witness rare flora such as rhododendrons, pines, maples and oaks, to name a few. Here you can also find some of the most endangered and unknown species of birds. In case, you are someone who takes interest in bird photography, then this can be the best hide-out for you. Your reels with go out of count but you will never get tired of capturing.

Who should go for this trek?

First timers who need a beginners guide to Himalayan hiking and seasoned adventurers who wish a glimpse of paradise, both are welcome to embark on the Deoriatal – Chandrashila trail.

Any pointers?

The moderate trek with a climb of 2000 ft requires preparation, physical fitness, and cardiovascular checks – prior to the journey – especially in snow-laden winter months. Mobile connectivity is active in Sari but weak in the mountains. ATMs can be last spotted in Ukhimath.

So yes, just a few pointers, before you are all set! Mark our words though; you just cannot afford to miss a single thing in the entire trek. It’s an absolute thrilling experience!

It is a long journey from Haridwar, where you can also get a glance of revered towns like Rudraprayag, Rishikesh and Devprayag. Well, it will roughly take 6-7 hours to reach Sari where you require regaining all your energy in order to start the next day enthralling trek to the famous Deoriatal Lake.

Day 2 - Sari – Deoriatal. (2.5 Kms hike/ 1 hr)

Your second day of the tour is trekking to Deoriatal. Once you have your breakfast, it is time to start your hike along a well-defined trail. It is an approximately 3 kms long trek, where you get to see some of the jaw-dropping beauty of the place. The entire trek will be guided by holy rivers Alaknanda and Ganga. After passing two viewpoints – constructed by the Forest Department and a dhaba – you shall reach your destination.

Deoriatal lake is a picture-perfect location with striking views of nature, Himalayan birds, mountain peaks such as Mt. Chaukhamba. During sunset, you can witness the stunning views of the golden sunrays striking the clear water. Camp beside the lake for the night. In the morning, it is simply magnificent to watch such the surreal beauty of the hills, as the clouds clear, to offer a mesmerising view.

Day 3: Deoria Taal – Rohini Bugyal (8 Kms trek/ 4-5 hours)

Your third day trail starts after having a healthy breakfast and gathering your energy to keep the adrenalin rush high till you reach Rohini Bugyal. During the trek, you will come across the scenic and lush patches of oaks, Rhododendron and Pine forests. Well, Monal is a rare bird species, which you can find if you are lucky enough. After passing the landmarks of Bhagdwal and Kala Parvat, you will reach a small rivulet. Fill your bottles here; your destination is a 40m climb on your right side. A path that diverts towards your right marks the entrance to this meadow. After about 20 minutes of descent through a forest trail, you would come across a road head.
