Overview

 The Kashmir Great Lakes Trek is in no need of an introductory treatise. It presents the proem in itself. You can draw a preface of it by just hearing its name. Kashmir is a wonderful place and if you are on a himalayan trek you are bound to taste the natural beauty and adventure.

Things to carry


Necessities:

  1. Trekking shoes **: Trekking shoes with good grip and ankle support is compulsory for the trek. Please ensure that the trekking shoes are not new and used by the trekker prior to the trek. The trail is slippery and requires you to walk through rocks and boulders so good grip and water resistance shoe is necessary.  Do keep an extra floater in case of rain and for use in camps.
  2. Backpack (50-70 litres) **: A backpack with comfortable straps and a supporting frame is very important as you have to carry it on your own during the trek. Invest in a good backpack that is lightweight and comfortable to carry on long treks. 
  3. Daypack (20 litres): Keep a daypack incase you off load your backpack during the trek for your essential day items.
  4. Torch or Headlamp **: Please bring a torch or headlamp for all treks.
  5. Cutlery: Carry a spoon, mug and a lunch box. We insist on trekkers getting their own cutlery for hygiene reasons and for packed lunch.
  6. Sunglasses **: Invest in a good pair of sunglasses as you are going to be out in the sun for most of day. If you are trekking in snow it will be a mandatory as it protects you from snow blindness.
  7. Two water bottles **: 1 litre each for water during the trek.

Clothes and Other accessories


  1. Warm jacket and Sweater (couple of them if you feel more susceptible to cold) 
  2. Thermals: Carry thermals to keep yourself warm in the camp.Trek pants (2)  for daily use during the trek which are light and comfortable.
  3. Collared Shirts (3-4) Full sleeves and quick dry so that it prevents sunburn on the arms and neck area. 
  4. Poncho: Poncho is very important when you are trekking in monsoon season to protect you from the rain. You can rent one from us @ INR 50 per day.
  5. Cap: To protect your hair and face from the scorching sun carry a cap.
  6.  Synthetic gloves for your hands as it will protect your hands from water, snow and keep you dry and warm.
  7. Socks (2 pair) + Wollen socks(2 pair)  for keep you warm in the camps.
  8. Trekking pole: You should carry your own trekking poles for the steep uphills and downhills. You can carry them or rent one from us @ INR 50 per day
  9. Toiletries: Sunscreen **, moisturiser, lip balm, toilet paper, toothbrush, toothpaste, hand sanitiser, wet wipes and tissues. 
  10. Plastic covers: While packing, use plastic bags to compartmentalise things and carry few extra plastic bags for wet clothes and to bring back your non biodegradable material back. Mountains are the source of water and life on this planet. Please try and keep it clean and healthy.

How to prepare for a moderate trek?


  • There is nothing more fulfilling than enjoying the nature's untouched beauty in the mountains. We are gifted with abilities to achieve any daunting tasks such as swimming and running. Just like these, trekking is an amazing experience for all. Challenging yourself to enjoy nature's gifts has always been a traveller's dream. Though trekking is an enthralling journey, it must be well prepared to enjoy it to the fullest.

  • A common question is 'how challenging is a trek'? It depends on various factors like weather, challenges faced during the trek, and most importantly, your endurance level. It is possible to have a beautiful hiking as long as you are physically and mentally prepared for it. Whether you are planning for an easy, moderate, or a difficult trek, a pre-training is the must. 

  • If you have already completed an easy trek, you go for a moderate trek with some more training. Moderate treks have challenges in terms of weather and different terrains but if you are fit, you can come over the obstacles. A moderate trek requires at 5 weeks of strength and flexibility training.

Moderate treks require more stamina to withstand weather and walk through different terrains. It is advisable to complete an easy trek before going for a moderate trek. Follow the exercise schedule and make sure you are fit by the end of fifth week. If you can run 5 kilometres within 30 minutes and follow flexibility exercises, you are fit for a moderate trek. If you already hit the gym, you can skip repetitive exercises. Running on the road is better than running on a treadmill.





How to reach

By Air :-
Most major air carriers like Indian Airlines (www.indian-airlines.nic.in) Jet airways (www.jetairways.com) and Indigo operate daily flights to Srinagar. Reaching Srinagar by flight from New Delhi is the most convenient way.

By Train :-
Jammu is the nearest railway station to Srinagar, which is at a distance of 290 km. Jammu railway station is well connected to all major cities in India by rail. Direct train services are available from Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and Trivandrum.

By Bus:-
Srinagar is linked by the National Highway 1A to the rest of the country. J & K state road transport operates comfortable buses from Jammu. The Journey takes about 10 hours to reach Srinagar.

Cancellations prior to 30 days from the start of the trek

You can either transfer the same trek to any of your friends/family or get a voucher

for the same amount and register for any of our treks in future (validity 1

(If the trek amount varies, the balance needs to be paid by the trekker)

You can either choose to go for any other trek or other batches for the same trek
