Overview

Har Ki Dun Valley is a cradle shaped hanging valley in the Garhwal region of the mighty Himalayas located at an altitude of approx. 3500m above mean sea level and is snow-covered from October to March. The valley is around 25 km from Taluka. Enclosed by mesmerizing snow-covered peaks and alpine vegetation this is a trail so steeped in mythology to justify the name “Valley of Gods”. Har ki Dun trek gives you the chance to follow the trail of Pandavas who supposedly took the very same route to mount to heaven via Swargarohini, the mountain that dominates the Har Ki Dun valley. Har ki Dun valley is well known for its beautiful flowers and meadows. Here, you'll be trekking along the Tons river, and you'll be seeing delightful mountain villages like Giangad, Seema and Osla. The breathtaking mountain views you get on this trek are astonishing and you will take back some awesome memories from this trek for sure.

Har ki Dun trek is not a difficult one and even beginners can enjoy this trek. The trek goes through some of the most isolated villages of India which are still untouched by modernity and civilization. The trekking path gradually ascends the side of the ridge across the river offering enchanting views of the mighty Himalayas. The tourist places you can visit whilst trek to Har ki Dun are Jamdhar Glacier and Morinda Taal. The Jamdhar Glacier is visible by 4 km trek from Har ki Dun towards the Swargarohini Peak, down the valley. The beautiful Morinda Taal is situated 3 km from Har ki Dun. While coming back from trek you can also visit the temple dedicated to Duryodhana of Mahabharata at Osla Village

Itinerary

Day 1
Drive to Sankri 220km

Dehradun Railway station to  Sankri via Mussoorie 220km 10hours.At first, you have to reach Dehradun station where the pickup for Sankri is at 6.30 AM. The distance between Dehradun and Sankri is 220 km and it will take around 10 hours to reach Sankri. The cost of cab per person is Rs 1000/-


Day 2
Drive from Sankri to Taluka and Trek to Osla
Then we will drive from Sankri to Taluka and will stay at night there in our guest house. In the morning after breakfast, we will start our trek towards Osla. You will trek through high Mountain ranges at 8400 ft above sea level. This place has rich vegetation and mountains covered with snow which are picturesque and you will able to witness nature at its best. There is an exclusive temple of Duryodhan of Mahabharatha in Osla which is a big tourist attraction here. We will linger here for a while just to marvel at the architecture of the village: the wooden houses of local villagers, stone roofs, the ornate carvings on their doors. At night, we will pitch a tent after reaching there and enjoy the pristine beauty of Garhwal Himalayas.
Day 3
Trek from Osla to Har Ki Dun
In the morning after breakfast, we will trek towards Har ki Dun. On the trail we will cross bridges over Tons river, the lush green valley covered with wild orchids of Himalayas and if lucky then we may get to see the rich wildlife of the Himalayas like barking deer, Bharal, Blue Sheep, Bear or Leopard etc. We will pass through the outstanding and picturesque view 14 km ahead in order to reach Har Ki Doon. We will reach Har Ki Dun valley on a snowy trail. Then the trail climbs to the ridge locally named as Kalkatti Dhar, from where the trail traverses to give an awesome view of Har Ki Dun. From here initially the trail climbs gradually and later gets steep in times go past through beautiful meadows to the campsite at Har Ki Dun. Overnight in the tents.
Day 4
Exploration Day at Har Ki Dun
Today we will put our camps in Har Ki Dun and enjoy the natural beauty of the place. The cascading rivers flowing under the shadow of towering mountains and lush green forests can be a dream come true for many and it’s for sure that you will enjoy it a lot.  Har ki Dun is a place that is famous for its enchanting silence and mesmerizing beauty. In the day we will explore and have fun in the mesmerizing place
Day 5
Trek from Har Ki Dun to Osla
In the morning after breakfast, we will start our trek back towards Osla and because we are aware of the route it will be easy for us to trek back. After the trek, we will relax for some time and have our lunch. After that, we explore the area and witness its majestic beauty.
Day 6
Trek from Osla to Sankri
Post breakfast we will start our trek from Osla Village to Sankri and though it will be long but it will not be that tiring as the entire route is downhill. After that, we will reach our tent and relax there overnight. We will have a bonfire and have fun together.
Day 7
Drive from Sankri to Dehradun
After an early breakfast, we will start our journey from Sankri to Dehradun and will most probably reach Dehradun by 6 PM. The trip ends here. If you are planning to do an overnight travel to Delhi on the same day, it will be better if you book the tickets in advance

Things to Carry

Necessities:


  1. Trekking shoes **: Trekking shoes with good grip and ankle support is compulsory for the trek. Please ensure that the trekking shoes are not new and used by the trekker prior to the trek. The trail is slippery and requires you to walk through rocks and boulders so good grip and water resistance shoe is necessary.  Do keep an extra floater in case of rain and for use in camps.
  2. Backpack (50-70 litres) **: A backpack with comfortable straps and a supporting frame is very important as you have to carry it on your own during the trek. Invest in a good backpack that is lightweight and comfortable to carry on long treks. 
  3. Daypack (20 litres): Keep a daypack incase you off load your backpack during the trek for your essential day items.
  4. Torch or Headlamp **: Please bring a torch or headlamp for all treks.
  5. Cutlery: Carry a spoon, mug and a lunch box. We insist on trekkers getting their own cutlery for hygiene reasons and for packed lunch.
  6. Sunglasses **: Invest in a good pair of sunglasses as you are going to be out in the sun for most of day. If you are trekking in snow it will be a mandatory as it protects you from snow blindness.
  7. Two water bottles **: 1 litre each for water during the trek.

  1. Warm jacket and Sweater (couple of them if you feel more susceptible to cold) 
  2. Thermals: Carry thermals to keep yourself warm in the camp.Trek pants (2)  for daily use during the trek which are light and comfortable.
  3. Collared Shirts (3-4) Full sleeves and quick dry so that it prevents sunburn on the arms and neck area. 
  4. Poncho: Poncho is very important when you are trekking in monsoon season to protect you from the rain. You can rent one from us @ INR 50 per day.
  5. Cap: To protect your hair and face from the scorching sun carry a cap.
  6.  Synthetic gloves for your hands as it will protect your hands from water, snow and keep you dry and warm.
  7. Socks (2 pair) + Wollen socks(2 pair)  for keep you warm in the camps.
  8. Trekking pole: You should carry your own trekking poles for the steep uphills and downhills. You can carry them or rent one from us @ INR 50 per day
  9. Toiletries: Sunscreen **, moisturiser, lip balm, toilet paper, toothbrush, toothpaste, hand sanitiser, wet wipes and tissues. 
  10. Plastic covers: While packing, use plastic bags to compartmentalise things and carry few extra plastic bags for wet clothes and to bring back your non biodegradable material back. Mountains are the source of water and life on this planet. Please try and keep it clean and healthy.
