Hampta Pass and Chandratal Lake Trek
Hampta Pass trek is a 5-day trek cross-over trek that starts from Manali, Kullu valley and ends in Chatru in Spiti Valley. This adventure trail to Hampta pass from Manali is exciting as it leads to enthralling meadows and green valleys. This exciting trek includes crossing a river, staying at campsites like Chika, Balu ka Ghera surrounded by tall forests of oak and alpine offering a spectacular view of the valley to the higher altitude campsites like Shea Gohru and Chatru in barren cold deserts of Spiti. You start the trek from Kullu valley which is home to abundant flora, colourful orchids, and sprawling mountainous slopes of Himalayan cedar. Once you cross over Hampta pass at 14000 feet, you reach the cold deserts of Spiti which are usually covered in snow from October to July.
The trek to Hampta pass is incomplete without an adventure-filled ride to Chandratal lake which lies at a 2-hour drive from Chatru the last point of the trek. At 14100 feet this calm and shimmering waters of the ‘Chandrataal’ lake, is indeed a traveler’s delight. This high-altitude lake with its pristine and clear water-changing colours throughout the day will leave you amazed.

INCLUSIONS:
- Accommodation costs (camping) -10 tested sleeping bags, with roll-on mattresses, and sleeping tents, the pantry/kitchen, and toilet facilities.

Day 1
DAY 1 : DRIVE from MANALI (6,726ft) to JOBRA(9,800ft) & TREK to CHIKA(11,100ft)
The team will rendezvous at Manali at 11.am & then drive to Jobra from Manali, which takes 45 min -1hour. Since Jobra is at the height of 2707 M, Jobra is a place known for natural beauty lined by wooded trails of maple, oak and deodar trees. A majestic view of the Rani Nallah flowing through the lush green meadows is a welcome sight to the trekkers here. From Jobra, the team begins the trek to reach Chikha, which takes about 2-3 hours. Chika is known to be surrounded by glorious grasslands all around. Speckled by wildflowers, these grasslands offer a gratifying view. Chika is where the trek team camp by night on the first day of the trek.
Day 2
DAY 2: TREK from CHIKA(11,100ft) to BALU KA GHERA (12,411ft)
In the morning after a delicious breakfast, The trek team commences their onward journey from Chika. This day we cover a distance of 9 km. Through the route, we’ll see a diverse range of colorful flowers growing in the wilderness. We cross different rivers, which makes the trek all the more marvelous. We reach Bhalu ka Ghera in 4-5 hours. This place, which is at an altitude of 3600m, offers picturesque views of the Dhauladhar ranges and the many majestic snow-capped peaks. The trek team stays at the camping site at Bhalu ka Ghera and dinner in campsites.
Day 3
DAY 3: TREK from BALU KA GHERA(12,411ft) via HAMPTA PASS (12,254ft) to SHEA GORU(14,035ft).
As this is the most critical part of the trek, we begin our day in the early morning after a delicious breakfast, the trek team prepares on a long hike, with their destination being the Shea Goru via Hampta Pass at 4300m. This route is perhaps the most challenging and exciting day of the trek. Finally, on reaching atop the Hampta Pass, the team feels triumphant, having reached their first high altitude pass(4300m). The fantastic views of the Chandra valley and the astoundingly beautiful barren mountains of Lahaul and Spiti present a spectacular sight here. They also get a glimpse of the lofty peaks of Deo Tibba and the Indrasan. The team further proceeds on a downhill journey to Shea Goru, from Hampta Pass to our camping site, which is at an altitude of 3700m.
Day 4
DAY 4: TREK from SHEA GORU(14,035ft) to CHATRU (10,898ft) and DRIVE to CHANDRATAL LAKE (14,100ft)
The team begins their onward trek from Shea Goru to Chatru. Both Shea Goru and Chatru, are located by the Chandra river, within the Spiti valley. They wear a deserted look, and the barren terrain gives a different view of the valley. It takes about 3-4 hours to reach Chatru. Chatru is a confluence point of paths from Rohtang Pass, Hampta Pass, and Lahaul & Spiti. At Chatru, the trek team drives to Chandratal lake. They reach Chandratal or the ‘Moon Lake’ in 2-3 hours via Rohtang. The Chandratal lake offers a stunning view. The blue, tranquil waters of the lake wear a touch of pristine serenity. After relaxing in the natural setting, we drive back to Chatru for camping & retire for the night
Day 5
DAY 5: CHATRU (10.898ft) - MANALI (6,726ft)
After a healthy breakfast, On the final day of the trek, we proceed back to Manali via Rohtang pass. It will be a bumpy ride and may take up to 7 hours. Trek ends here
Necessities:
- Trekking shoes **: Trekking shoes with good grip and ankle support is compulsory for the trek. Please ensure that the trekking shoes are not new and used by the trekker prior to the trek. The trail is slippery and requires you to walk through rocks and boulders so good grip and water resistance shoe is necessary. Do keep an extra floater in case of rain and for use in camps.
- Backpack (50-70 litres) **: A backpack with comfortable straps and a supporting frame is very important as you have to carry it on your own during the trek. Invest in a good backpack that is lightweight and comfortable to carry on long treks.
- Daypack (20 litres): Keep a daypack incase you off load your backpack during the trek for your essential day items.
- Torch or Headlamp **: Please bring a torch or headlamp for all treks.
- Cutlery: Carry a spoon, mug and a lunch box. We insist on trekkers getting their own cutlery for hygiene reasons and for packed lunch.
- Sunglasses **: Invest in a good pair of sunglasses as you are going to be out in the sun for most of day. If you are trekking in snow it will be a mandatory as it protects you from snow blindness.
- Two water bottles **: 1 litre each for water during the trek.

Clothes and Other accessories
- Warm jacket and Sweater (couple of them if you feel more susceptible to cold)
- Thermals: Carry thermals to keep yourself warm in the camp.Trek pants (2) for daily use during the trek which are light and comfortable.
- Collared Shirts (3-4) Full sleeves and quick dry so that it prevents sunburn on the arms and neck area.
- Poncho: Poncho is very important when you are trekking in monsoon season to protect you from the rain. You can rent one from us @ INR 50 per day.
- Cap: To protect your hair and face from the scorching sun carry a cap.
- Synthetic gloves for your hands as it will protect your hands from water, snow and keep you dry and warm.
- Socks (2 pair) + Wollen socks(2 pair) for keep you warm in the camps.
- Trekking pole: You should carry your own trekking poles for the steep uphills and downhills. You can carry them or rent one from us @ INR 50 per day
- Toiletries: Sunscreen **, moisturiser, lip balm, toilet paper, toothbrush, toothpaste, hand sanitiser, wet wipes and tissues.
- Plastic covers: While packing, use plastic bags to compartmentalise things and carry few extra plastic bags for wet clothes and to bring back your non biodegradable material back. Mountains are the source of water and life on this planet. Please try and keep it clean and healthy.
